Ojinika Obiekwe is an American Emmy-Award-winning anchor and reporter. She currently serves as an entertainment, Storyteller, and Lifestyle Correspondent for PIX11 News. Ojika went to the USA from Nigeria at the age of 16 for her college education. Just before her graduation, a casual meeting took her to New York’s channel WPIX as an intern in 2001.
Sixteen years later, she became an assignment editor, producer/ reporter. Currently, she is an entertainment anchor. So far, her achievement is a dream come true. In her career, Ojinika has interviewed many celebrities and politicians among other famous people in the USA. She has also met many people from all walks of life in her career. Sixteen years later, she moved from being an assignment editor to being a producer/reporter and now entertainment anchor. Ojinika knew that she wanted to be a journalist since high school, but never dreamed further than being a print journalist.
She wanted to graduate and start writing for some paper, however, luckily fate took its course and Ojinika ended up where is now, and she honestly couldn’t think of anything she would rather be doing as a career. The best part of Ojinika’s job is the fact that she loves what she does and she is pretty good at it, but with this, Ojinika also realized that she can reach so many people and touch many lives, especially women, not just in Nigeria, but the entire continent of Africa and hopefully all over the world.
In front of the camera, her true energy shines through with feature stories that bring her viewers the latest and also the greatest products, places, and people out there. Ojinika knew being on camera would be her next move after she won a fellowship in 2007 presented by the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ).
She got a chance to report in Senegal, this became Ojinika’s first chance to be on-camera as a reporter. After that piece on her Senegal trip aired, Ojinika just knew that she was right where she was supposed to be, doing what she was meant to do and counting her blessings every day.
