Nobu Matsuhisa ( Full name: Nobuyuki “Nobu” Matsuhisa ) is a Japanese celebrity chef and restaurateur. He is best known for his fusion cuisine blending traditional Japanese dishes with Peruvian ingredients. Nobu’s signature dish is black cod in miso. The chef has restaurants bearing his name in several countries. Apart from his profession as a chef and restaurateur, Nobu played small parts in three major films.

He graduated from high school at the age of 15, He immediately started working as a dishwasher at the restaurant Matsue Sushi in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Nobu was trained as a Sushi master in the same restaurant. After seven years, Nobu was invited by a regular customer who was a Peruvian of Japanese descent. They open a Japanese restaurant in Peru.

He moved to Lima, Peru in 1973 at the age of 24 and opened a restaurant under the same name of Matsue in partnership with his sponsor. Nobu was not able to find many of the ingredients he took for granted in Japan. He, therefore, had to improvise. While there, he developed his unique style of cuisine that incorporated Peruvian ingredients into Japanese dishes.
However, the restaurant had to close after three years. He stayed in Argentina for a short while and tried to open a new restaurant, eventually, he moved to Anchorage, Alaska, and opened his own restaurant. There was an electrical fire and the restaurant burned down about two weeks after the grand opening. Nobu moved to Los Angeles in 1977 and worked at Japanese restaurants “Mitsuwa” and “Oshou. He opened his own restaurant called “Matsuhisa” in 1987 on La Cienega Boulevard in Los Angeles, California.
While working in Matsuhisa, Nobu came to know Robert De Niro, who encouraged him to open a restaurant in New York. He laid the foundation for a new restaurant chain in 1994, as he opened the first “Nobu” in Tribeca, New York in a joint venture between Drew Nieporent, Robert De Niro, Meir Teper, and himself.

Real Estalker, a real estate blog that first reported on the purchase, notes that the home was commissioned by the former owners of Architectural Digest magazine, Cleon and Betty Knapp. The Bel-Air property was designed by famous architect Hugh Newell Jacobson. It boasts more than 13,000 square feet of living space, courtyards, glass corridors, and a sculpture or two.
