Nikole Hannah Jones ( Full name: Nikole Sheri Hannah-Jones) is an American investigative journalist. She is well known for her coverage of civil rights in the United States. Nikole became a staff writer for The New York Times in April 2015. She now serves as a domestic correspondent for the Magazine where she focuses on racial injustice. Two years later, in 2017 she won a MacArthur Fellowship. In 2020, Nikole was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary for her work on The 1619 Project.
Currently, Nikole is the inaugural Knight Chair in Race and Journalism at the Howard University School of Communications. It is there that Nikole plans to found the Center for Journalism and Democracy. Nikole and her sister went to almost all-white schools as part of a voluntary program of desegregation busing. She graduated from Waterloo West High School in 19995. While there, Nikole wrote for the high school newspaper.
