Nicolas Ghesquière Family

He was born to his parents in Comines, Nord, and raised in Loudun, Vienne. Nicolas is the younger of two sons of his father and a French mother. His father was a Francophone Belgian golf-course owner who served as the manager in the 7,500-inhabitant Poitevine town of Loudun. His mother enjoyed fashion. The designer announced at a very young age that he wanted to be a designer.

In his adulthood, he admits this was partly from an adolescent desire to do something different from his parents well as to alleviate country boredom. Nicolas was sketching dress designs in his school books at the age of 12. He made dresses out of his mother’s curtains, and also designed earrings out of his grandmother’s chandelier crystals.

He put together a portfolio of drawings with the help of his father and sent it to several designers and attached a  letter introducing himself. Nicolas diligently did internships during his school holidays. He assumed an internship with French designer agnès b at the age of 14 for which he was paid in clothes. His next apprenticeship was with Corinne Cobson. Afterward, the decided that fashion was difficult and returned home to finish his schooling.
