Neil  Gaiman ( Full name: Neil Richard MacKinnon Gaiman) is an English author of audio theatre, nonfiction, graphic novels, comic books, novels, short fiction, and films. His works include the comic book series titled The Sandman and the novels Coraline, American Gods, Stardust,  and The Graveyard Book.

Neil has won countless awards for his work including Nebula, the Hugo, as well as Bram Stoker awards. He is also a holder of Newbery and Carnegie medals. Neil became the first author to win both the Newbery and the Carnegie medals in 2008 for the same work, i.e The Graveyard Book.

The Ocean at the End of the Lane was voted Book of the Year in 2013 in the British National Book Awards. Later, the book was adapted into a critically acclaimed stage play at the Royal National Theater based in London, England. The Independent called the play “…theater at its best”.

He was born to his parents in Portchester, Hampshire, England. Neil’s family is of Polish-Jewish and other Eastern European Jewish origins. His great-grandfather originated from Antwerp, Belgium, and moved to the UK before 1914. He eventually settled in the south of England in the Hampshire city of Portsmouth where he established a chain of grocery stores. Nail’s grandfather changed his original family name from Chaiman to Gaiman. David Bernard Gaiman, Nail’s dad worked in the same chain of stores.
