Over 30 national and state organizations worked together to oppose the initiative.
In 2018, Neil and McGrory won the George Polk Award for their report on an alarming death rate at a Johns Hopkins pediatric heart surgery center The report was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting. After the investigation, the hospital paid nearly $43 million to families. Also, the CEO and the chief heart surgeon resigned in response to the stories.
