Nathan J Robinson (Full name: Nathan James Robinson) is an English-American author, journalist, and political commentator. He is the founder of Current Affairs magazine in 2015 and currently serves as its editor-in-chief. Nathan founded the left-wing magazine Current Affairs after a Kickstarter campaign raised $16,000.
He published an article on February 10, 2021, alleging that John Mulholland, the Guardian US editor fired him for tweeting criticism of U.S. military aid to Israel. Nathan had been a Guardian columnist. He wrote a pair of tweets: “Did you know that the US congress is not actually permitted to authorize any new spending unless a portion of it is directed toward buying weapons for Israel? It’s the law.”, and “or if not actually the written law then so ingrained in political custom as to functionally be indistinguishable from the law”. In his article, Nathan said the tweets were a joke.
In another tweet, he shared an image of an email allegedly sent by Mulholland. The tweet said that the tweet was “fake news” since no such law exists. He noted the prevalence of antisemitic tropes regarding Jewish control of American public life. According to the email, Nathan’s tweet was antisemitic. A representative for Guardian US stated that Nathan was “neither a staff employee nor on contract and so was not ‘fired'”. According to Reason magazine, the distinction is marginal for recurring columnists.
