After 19 years he closed Blue Ginger this was due to the end of a lease. Further, in 2013, he opened Blue Dragon in Boston. The resturant was also named “Best New Restaurant” in its opening year by Esquire Magazine.

His tv career kicked off in 1997 as he filled in on chef Sara Moulton’s cooking show Cooking Live. From 1998 to 2003, Tsai worked as the host of East Meets West on the Food Network. Currently, he hosts the Simply Ming food show on PBS. In 2005, he served as a judge of Cooking Under Fire and also challenged Iron Chef Bobby Flay. Moreover, in 2010, he was a contestant in The Next Iron Chef and appeared in the 2014 Top Chef episode.
