Mickey Guyton is an American country music artist. Her musical work contains elements of both contemporary country and country-pop. A native of Texas, Mickey was exposed to different types of music at a very tender age, notably country. They later moved to Nashville, Tennessee with her family and would later sign a recording contract with Capitol Records Nashville.
In 2015, her debut extended play titled Unbreakable was released by the label. In 2015, Mickey’s debut single was released on Capitol”Better Than You Left Me.” She receive a nomination from the Academy of Country Music Awards after the song reached the top 40 on the country chart. Mickey’s second extended play was released in the same year. She released the single, “Black Like Me,” in 2020 and the song speaks on her experiences as a Black woman, and especially a Black woman in country music.
The song came out in the wake of the George Floyd protests and the Black Lives Matter movement. Further, it elevated her career and resulted in her first-ever nomination at the Grammy Awards and became the first Black woman to ever be nominated in that category. Later the same year, Mickey’s third extended play Bridges came out. From there, she collaborated with Dean Brody on the song titled “Boys”. The song made Mickey the first black woman to achieve a number one hit on the Canada Country chart.

Mickey relocated to Los Angeles, California after high school so that she could pursue country music professionally. Also, she attended Santa Monica College.
