Laura Benanti ( Full name: Laura Ilene Benanti) is an American singer and actress. Over the course of her Broadway career, Laura has received five Tony Award nominations.  In the 2008 Broadway revival of Gypsy, Laura played Louise and won the 2008 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. In 2010 she appeared in the Broadway musical Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.

From the performance, Laura won the Drama Desk Award and Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. Also, Laure played Elsa Schräder in the 2013 NBC  tv production of The Sound of Music Live. In 2015, she started playing twin sisters Alura and Astra in the TV series called Supergirl. Laura appeared as Edie Randall in the TBS comedy called The Detour from 2017 until the was canceled in 2019. Since 2016, Laura has had a recurring role on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert the former First Lady Melania Trump.

She was born to her parents  Linda Wonneberger and Martin Vidnovic in New York City, New York, United States of America.  Linda was a vocal coach and former actress, while  Martin was a Broadway actor and singer. Laurs is of Serbian, German, and Irish heritage. However, her parents divorced when she was still a young girl and her mother remarried. Laura moved to Kinnelon, New Jersey, with her mother and her psychotherapist stepfather called Salvatore Benanti. She assumed her stepfather’s name and has since then  referred to him as her father
