Michael Pitts Cornerstone Church
Michael and his wife moved to Toledo to start a non-denominational church, Cornerstone Church in June 1986. He has not attended any theological college or seminary but is self-taught from tapes, CDs, books, and other materials. The church grew with 1,00- members weekly when he was 26 years. The church became the largest church in Northwest Ohio, with 4,000 members as of 2005.
He was first converted as a bishop in October 2009 by the International Communion of Charismatic Churches. Michael has published over a dozen books and has preached at the annual Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance conference several times. He has also held annual meetings in Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Ghana. Furthermore, he is the founder of “Heal The World” that aids in covering the cost of collecting Bibles for US soldiers, partnering with Mercy Ministries, and kitchen Thanksgiving meals.
In his foundation, he also funds the Cornerstone Academy and also hosts the annual WOWJAM aimed at reaching the community. In addition, he has an album Heal The World, containing songs co-written by Pitts and featuring Sheryl Brady, The Katinas, Lucia ParkerIsrael Houghton, Linda Green, and Bryan Popin in December 2015.
He was charged and arrested with exposing himself to passing motorists near Oak Openings Metropark in Swanton on September 18, 1997. The case was, however, dropped on January 15, 1998, byJudge Francis Gorman of the Toledo Municipal Court stated that limitations had expired for the initial event. Moreover, he had invested at WMNT-TV, Channel 48, in Toledo in 1997 where the church supported it attaining 37% ownership. But, where the church became bankrupt and relocated.
