Michael Haley ( Full Name: William Michael Haley) is an American commissioned officer in the South Carolina Army National Guard who worked as the first gentleman of South Carolina from 2011 until 2017. He was the first man to hold the role. He is recognized as the husband of the retired United States Ambassador to the United Nations and retired Governor of South Carolina Nikki Haley.
Since he is the first person to become the first gentleman of South Carolina, and due to there having only been fifteen first gentlemen in U.S. history, including the five men in that position as of 2015, there were rumors about what Michael’s role would be. Michael chaired the foundation that oversees the preservation and management of the South Carolina Governor’s Mansion in Columbia. He is listed as president of Stand for America, a policy and media organization that Nikki Haley began following leaving her position as UN ambassador.
