Meghan Daum ( Full name: Meghan Elizabeth Daum) is an American author, essayist, and journalist. She spent much time living in New York City in her 20s. In 1999, Meghan moved to Lincoln, Nebraska. The experience she got there became the catalyst for her novel titled The Quality of Life Report which she authored in 2003.

The novel follows the life and also the times of an ambitious young tv journalist who trades New York for the fictional town of Prairie City. The novel explores themes of social class in America and the contradictions of the “simplicity movement”  as well. Meghan authored two collections of essays. The first one was titled My Misspent Youth while the second one was The Unspeakable: And Other Subjects of Discussion.  Slate and Entertainment Weekly named the latter as a top 10 book of the year. The novel won the 2015 PEN CENTER USA Literary Award for Creative Nonfiction.
