During her time there, Maia covered the tragic death of two on-duty Toledo firefighters killed in arson, and the months-long heartbreaking search for a murdered toddler in addition to solving issues and getting answers for frustrated viewers.
Prior to moving in front of the camera in Toledo, she did almost every job in the newsroom such as running the assignment desk, editing shows, becoming a photographer, and even a live truck operator. While at Bowling Green State University she served for the PBS affiliate WBGU-TV and interned in her hometown of Detroit at WDIV-TV.
She is one of the National Association of Black Journalists. Besides being a “Big Sister,” she volunteers her time to make a difference in the lives of children via the organization Big Brothers Big Sisters.
