Later after winning Miss South Carolina USA, Lu competed at Miss USA in 1994. Lu came into the semi-finals in the first place, having won all three preliminary competitions. Immediately after the semi-finals, Lu went into the Top 6 in second place.
Later on, the judges’ question, Lu just made the cut in the final three in third place, eventually emerging as the third South Carolinian to be crowned Miss USA.
