Louis Farrakhan Bio | Wiki

Louis Farrakhan ( Full name:  Louis Eugene Walcott ) is an American political activist and religious leader. He heads the Nation of Islam (NOI). Earlier in his career, Louis worked as the minister of mosques in Boston and Harlem. Former NOI leader Elijah Muhammad appointed him as the National Representative of the Nation of Islam.

Louis started to rebuild the NOI as “Final Call”. following the reorganization of the original NOI into the orthodox Sunni Islamic group American Society of Muslims by Warith Deen Mohammed. Louis officially adopted the name “Nation of Islam” in 1981, reviving the group and also establishing its headquarters at Mosque Maryam. Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) describes The Nation of Islam as a hate group.

Louis’s antisemitic statements as well as his views have been condemned by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), the SPLC, and other monitoring organizations. The NOI promotes a “fundamentally anti-white theology” ( According to the SPLC) resulting in an “innate black superiority over whites”. However, on many occasions, Louis has disputed these assertions.

He organized and led the Million Man March in Washington, D.C. in October 1995. Due to health issues in 2017, Louis reduced his responsibilities with the NOI but he has continued to deliver sermons and also speak at NOI events. In 2015, Louis led the 20th Anniversary of the Million Man March: Justice or Else. In 2019  Louis, along with other public figures considered to be extremists were banned from Facebook.
