Her career journey began at the now-inoperative Los Angeles Herald-Examiner where she worked as a general assignment reporter. Leslie did her internship at KCOP-TV which led to a position in the news department at KTTV, a FOX affiliate where she served as a desk assistant. Her first official job as a journalist began at WDAM-TV in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. During her time at WDAM-TV, she had a couple of roles where she served as a reporter, anchored three shows a day, and also produced a newscast.
She later went to work for WVUE-TV in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she got her first major market assignment. Leslie returned to Los Angeles in 1994 where she worked as a general assignment reporter for KABC-TV’s Eyewitness News program. She was later approached by WBBM-TV in Chicago in 1998 with a proposal to become its top female weekend anchor and acted as a replacement for Sarah Lucero. An article in the Chicago Sun-Times reported on December 3, 1998, that Leslie had chosen to remain in Los Angeles.
She was later promoted in June 1999 to co-anchor the weekend edition of the Eyewitness News. After some years, Leslie was promoted again in 2009 to co-anchor the 11 a.m. to Noon slot and also joined the team on Eyewitness News This Morning.
