Laura Sullivan Ford
In 1996, she and her other two fellow university seniors expanded a class assignment. The assignment ultimately freed four males (Ford Heights Four) who had been wrongfully convicted of murder in Chicago’s South Side that occurred in 1978. The other two males were death-row inmates. This case, among other several cases led to a moratorium on capital punishment in Illinois. Later, Laura wrote about the project and won a special citation from Investigative Reporters as well as Editors in an essay for the Sunday of the Baltimore Sun of June 27, 1999 edition.
