Melissa Block is a well-known American journalist and radio host. She is a special correspondent for NPR and former co-host of NPR’s All Things Considered news program. Melissa worked in this position from 2003 until August 14, 2015. In August 2015, she became a Special Correspondent for NPR. Malisa became responsible for detailed profiles of newsworthy figures, as well as long-form stories and series on topical issues.

Malissa joined NPR  in 1985 as an editorial assistant for ATC. She later rose to become ATC’s senior producer. From 1994 to 2002, Melissa served as the New York reporter and correspondent for NPR. Her coverage after the September 11 attacks won NPR a Peabody Award in 2001. In 2008,  when  China was struck by a 7.9 magnitude earthquake, Melissa was recording an interview in Chengdu, China.

She covered the earthquake and her reporting earned her the Society of Professional Journalists Sigma Delta Chi Award, a National Headliner Award, a DuPont-Columbia Award, and a Peabody Award. Also, Melissa’s coverage of the 9/11 terrorist attacks won NPR a George Foster Peabody Award. Additionally, her reporting from Kosovo in 1999 for NPR won an Overseas Press Club Award.
