Before joining Fox 11 in Los Angeles, California, Kyle spent more than two decades in San Diego, California working as a sports anchor/sports director for KFMB-TV. He joined CBS8 in September 1999, after working for KCBS as an anchor. During his career as a journalist, Kyle has been the host of a nationally syndicated news show, Hard Copy while working for Los Angeles Paramount Pictures. He has also worked as a Sports Director/ Sports Anchor/ Sports Reporter for ABC in El Paso, ABC in Sarasota, CBS Watertown, CBS Albany, and ABC in Tampa Bay, Florida.

He started the blood drive after recuperating from an ambushed shooting at his driveway on February 10, 2015, while heading to work at CBS8. Out of the 20 bullets fired from a 9mm handgun, six of the bullets went through Kyle. Two of the shots fired at his chest pierced both the liver and his lung. Therefore, he spent a week in a coma and required more than 14 pints of blood to fight for his life.
In an effort to thank the doctors, nurses, and anonymous blood donors, Kyle established KK’s Heroes. Furthermore, he also initiated the Celebration of Heroes Blood Drives in partnership with the American Red Cross. The blood drive is also inspired by a girl named Kamila, who has endured more than 107 blood transfusions due to a blood disorder, Thalassemia.
