Keenen Ivory Wayans ( Full name: Keenen Ivory Desuma Wayans ) is an American filmmaker, comedian, and actor with the Wayans family of entertainers’ membership. He came to prominence for the first time as the host as well as the creator of the 1990–1994 Fox sketch comedy series titled In Living Color. Apart from that, Keenen has produced, directed, and/or written other films.
He started by co-writing Hollywood Shuffle in 1987. The majority of Keenen’s films have included him and one or more of his siblings (brothers and sisters) in the cast. Such films include Scary Movie in 2000. The movie was the highest-grossing movie directed by an African American actor until 2005 when it was surpassed by Tim Story’s Fantastic Four. From 1997 to 1998, he hosted his own talk show most recently served as a judge for the eighth season of Last Comic Standing.
It was revealed by the Genealogical TV show Finding Your Roots that Keenen’s paternal line traced back to Madagascar. His deeper ancestry originated in Oceania. His dad was a devout Jehovah’s Witness. Later, they moved to Manhattan’s Fulton housing projects. There, Keenen primarily grew up attending Seward Park High School during his teenage years. After high school, he joined Tuskegee University on an engineering scholarship.
Keene met Robert Townsend during his first set performing at The Improv in New York. Robert helped Keenen learn about the comedy business. The two drove cross country to Los Angeles together after Keenen moved to Los Angeles in 1980. He worked there as an actor and had a regular role as a soldier on a tv series For Love and Honor. Additionally, he appeared as a famous NFL linebacker on Hill Street Blues.
