After her parents divorced, Kalsey’s dad would listen to Kevin Sharp’s song ‘Nobody Knows It But Me,’ over and over again.
Kalsey knew exactly what her dad was feeling without him telling her what he was feeling. That’s when Kalsey knew what music could do for people. That’s what she wants to do for people. Kalsey has been honing her craft since the time she could talk. Her first talent show was at the age of three years and her first guitar was at thirteen years old. Shortly after, Kalsey won her first competition and then everything changed.
During her high school life, Kulyk was diagnosed with cancer and she underwent six months of chemotherapy. During the chemotherapy session, she lost all her hair. However, she got a lot of song inspiration, because there were so many people Kalsey got to meet during chemo. She would run home and write about their incredible stories. Kalsey had to get it all out, and she wanted to give that voice to people.
Once she recovered from cancer, Kalsey pursued her passion for music with even more determination. She even went ahead to work with a Fleetwood Mac producer called Richard Dashut. Also, Kalsey made trips to Nashville for meetings and to write.
There, all that she did never went unnoticed. Kulyk was invited to participate in the “On the Spot” competition and the Canadian Country Music Association’s Discovery Artist program and won both.
