Judd Apatow (Full name: Judd Mann Apatow) is an American producer, director, comedian, and screenwriter. He is best known for his work in comedy and drama films. Judd is the founder of Apatow Productions. Through this company, he has produced and directed the films such as The 40-Year-Old Virgin in 2005, Knocked Up in 2007, Funny People in 2009, This Is 40 in 2012, Trainwreck in 2015, The King of Staten Island in 2020, and The Bubble in 2022.

Also, he has produced and developed television series such as Freaks and Geeks from 1999 to 2000, Undeclared from 2001 to 2002, Funny or Die Presents from 2010 to 2011,  Girls from 2012 to 2017, Love from 2016 to 2018,  and Crashing from 2017 to 2019. Throughout his career, he has received nominations for 11 Primetime Emmy Awards where he won two, five Writers Guild of America Awards where he won one, one Golden Globe Award, two Producers Guild of America Awards, and one Grammy Award.

His first application for membership at The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was rejected even though Judd was sponsored by Akiva Goldsman and Stephen Gaghan who are Academy Award-winning screenwriters. According to Seth Rogen,  Judd “just wanted the free DVDs.”He finally became a member in 2008.

He was born to his parents Maury Apatow, a real-estate developer, and Tamara Shad. Tamara ran the music label Mainstream Records founded by her father, Bob Shad. Judd was born in the Flushing neighborhood of the New York City borough of Queens. He grew up in  Syosset, New York, on Long Island. Hudd’s family is Jewish but nonreligious. He has an older brother called Robert, and a younger sister called  Mia.

He made his first documentary piece in 2016 titled Doc and Darryl. It documents the career and relationship of New York Mets players Dwight “Doc” Gooden and Darryl Strawberry. This documentary aired as part of ESPN’s series of sports documentaries 30 for 30 in July 2016. He co-directed the documentary May It Last: A Portrait Of The Avett Brothers.
