John Mulaney ( Full name: John Edmund Mulaney ) is an American stand-up comedian, writer, actor, and producer. He rose to fame thanks to his work as a writer on Saturday Night Live. John was a stand-up comedian with stand-up specials The Top Part in 2009, New in Town in 2012, The Comeback Kid in 2015, and Kid Gorgeous in 2018.
He won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special. John is known for his children’s musical comedy special called John Mulaney & the Sack Lunch Bunch in 2019. The comedy special was released on Netflix. He created the short-lived Fox sitcom Mulaney which he starred from 2014 to 2015. The sitcom was a semi-autobiographical series about his life. John has gained fame for his performance as George St. Geegland in a comedic duo with Nick Kroll.
The two appeared on television and on Broadway in a show called Oh, Hello on Broadway in 2016. Currently, John serves as a co-executive producer, writer, and occasional actor in the IFC mockumentary series Documentary Now! He has been serving in this position since 2015. Also, he voiced Andrew Glouberman in the Netflix original animated show titled Big Mouth. John made his film debut in 2018 by voicing Peter Porker / Spider-Ham in the animated feature film titled Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

John’s parents attended Georgetown University and Yale Law School and were at Georgetown and Yale at the same time as future president Bill Clinton ( John claims to have met Clinton in 1992). At the age of 5, John knew he wanted to do comedy after watching the lifestyle of the character Ricky Ricardo on the program I Love Lucy, He knew that he wanted to go into show business and so he worked hard to fulfill his dream. He was a member of a Chicago-based children’s sketch group called “The Rugrats” at the age of 7. Because of this, John had an opportunity to audition for the role of Kevin in a film titled Home Alone.
However, his parents declined the chance. He attended St. Clement School for junior high where in lieu of doing reports he and his best friend called John O’Brien. O’Brien would offer to perform what they had learned in the format of a skit. John played the role of Wally Webb in a production of Our Town at the age of 14. He would also frequent the Museum of Broadcast Communications and watch archived episodes of shows such as I Love Lucy or The Tonight Show. The later starred Johnny Carson.
