John Cho is an American actor best known for his roles in the Harold & Kumar films where he played Harold Lee and Hikaru Sulu in the film series titled Star Trek reboot. Also, John starred in the Asian American–centered films titled Better Luck Tomorrow in 2002, Shopping for Fangs in 1997, as well as Yellow in 1998 in the early days of his career.

In 2017, John received critical acclaim for his performance in the hit indie film titled Columbus. The following year, he starred in the thriller film titled Searching. His role in Searching made John the first Asian American actor to headline a mainstream thriller film in Hollywood in history. For his performance in Searching, he was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead.

Additionally, after he starred in the 2014 sitcom Selfie as Henry Higgs, John made history in American tv as the first Asian-American actor cast as a romantic lead. Apart from his role in Selfie,  John has had lead roles in other series including FlashForward and Off Centre. Also, he had a recurring role in Sleepy Hollow as well as Difficult People.

John had a successful starring role in 2004’s Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle as Harold Lee and reprised the same role in 2008’s Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay. The film raked in $38 million at the theaters, and yet again in 2011’s A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas. This time making $35 million. His role in the popular franchise was written by Hayden Schlossberg specifically for him and  John has recounted that he was initially suspicious when Schlossberg first approached him with the role.

Also, he had a guest appearance on the sitcom How I Met Your Mother, in the episode “I’m Not That Guy.” In this one,  he played a partner in an evil law firm. Staci Krause of IGN wrote that John was “the scene-stealer in the “I’m Not That Guy” episode and that she would “definitely like to see more of him” in the series.

Variety reported in April 2019 that  John had been cast in a live-action version of the Cowboy Bebop series as Spike Spiegel. However, production shut down after he suffered a knee injury in October. It remained shut down until late September 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Cowboy Bebop 2021 TV Series was scheduled to premiere on November 19, 2021, on Netflix.
