Jim Spencer was an American Emmy Award-winning meteorologist and anchor. Previously, he was serving at KXAN as the Chief Weathercaster. Recently Spencer celebrated his 30th anniversary at KXAN. In the history of KXAN Austin television, he is the longest-serving weathercaster forecasting Austin and Central Texas weather.
However, Spencer announced his semi-retirement as slated for the end of February 2020. In addition, Spencer moved to Austin in 1990 to forecast the weather on the city’s first hourlong morning news show. He has been a fixture at KXAN ever since, reporting on everything from crippling droughts to historic floods.
With the help of supercomputers, Spencer’s accuracy has more than doubled in the last 30 years. Additionally, he plans to continue his community service and involvement with charitable organizations such as Family Eldercare, the Helping Hand Home for Children, and animal welfare groups, among many others.

In Spencer’s place will be current KXAN weekday morning meteorologist, David Yeomans. KXAN also announced Kristen Currie, the weekend evening and noon meteorologist will move to the morning news to replace Yeomans.
In addition, Spencer leaves behind a ton of awards such as three Lone Star Emmys, five Texas Associated Press awards, and 21 Austin Chronicle “Best Weathercaster” honors.
