Iyani Hughes is an American journalist who was born in Aurora, Colorado, United States but grew up in Birmingham, AL. Currently, she works as a Digital Multi-Media Journalist and TV Reporter at CBS46 in Atlanta, GA. She joined the station in May 2019.
Iyani went to Chelsea High School where she played soccer. This earned her a soccer scholarship to attend Kennesaw State University, in North Atlanta, GA. Iyani graduated from the university in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication with a concentration in Media Studies. Also in 2015, she became the inaugural inductee to the Chelsea High School, Soccer Hall of Fame.

On April 14, 2019, in the morning hours, Iyani was a victim of a kidnapping when their News Van was carjacked. She had just wrapped up an on-air broadcast and went back to the news Van to edit her video. Incidentally, Iyani had turned on the engine in order to power her computer. However, according to CBS 46, just as she was attempting to lock the door of the vehicle, a pregnant woman later identified as Seniqua Lunsford allegedly busted in, got into the driver’s seat and sped off with Hughes still inside.
The woman is said to have crashed her own car into an apartment gate shortly before the incident. Ms. Lunsford was allegedly trying to flee from the police when she spotted the CBS46 news van running. She got into the car and sped off with the police in pursuit.
Iyani then tried to make the woman stop the car but when she refused, Iyani took her seat and buckled up. Lunsford drove the vehicle for about a mile when she crashed again into the side of the road. Iyani, who was also pregnant was not hurt but the woman was injured in the arm. She was treated and discharged due to trauma and the woman was detained.
