Norton was born as Graham William Walker in Clondalkin, County Dublin, Ireland in 1963 to Rhoda Walker and William “Billy”. He holds Irish nationality and was raised in Tramore, then Waterford, Kilkenny, and settled in Bandon, County Cork. Graham’s family was from the Church of Ireland. His father Billy who was from Country Wicklow worked as a a sales representative for Guinness but died in 2000.

Rhoda, his mother is from Belfast and he has an older sister Paula. During a 2007 episode of the genealogy series Who Do You Think You Are, he discovered that his father’s direct ancestors were English who landed in Ireland in 1713.
