Graham Hancock ( Full name: Graham Bruce Hancock) is a British author and journalist. He is famous due to his pseudoscientific theories involving ancient civilizations; a topic on which Graham has published twelve books. The main thesis of his work is a proposed connection between the ancient cultures of Egypt, Mesopotamia, and Mesoamerica with a former and more advanced ‘mother culture.’

Graham believes that later ancient cultures emanated from this advanced ‘mother culture.’ The journalist has received considerable criticism from historical as well as archeological academics for his work, which has neither been peer-reviewed nor published in academic journals, therefore becoming an example of pseudohistory and pseudoarchaeology.

He gave a TEDx lecture titled “The War on Consciousness.” In this Talk, Graham described his use of an amazonian brew called ayahuasca which contains a hallucinogenic compound DMT. He argued that adults should be given permission to responsibly use it for self-improvement and spiritual growth. The lecture was removed from the TEDx YouTube channel following a recommendation from TED’s Science Board.
