Gerald Scarfe (Full Name: Gerald Anthony Scarfe) is a popular English cartoonist and illustrator who has presented a radio show on BBC Radio 4 since June 2013 called Recycled Radio. Previously, he served as an editorial cartoonist for The Sunday Times and an illustrator at The New Yorker.
In addition, Gerald also worked as the production designer on the Disney animated feature Hercules (1997). He supplied the opening titles at Yes Minister and Yes, Prime Minister. Following shortly serving in advertising, a profession he grew to hate intensely, Gerald’s early caricatures of public figures were released in the satirical magazine Private Eye during the 1960s and 1970s.
Early in 1960, Gerald produced illustrations for Punch, The Evening Standard as well as The Daily Sketch. The Sunday Times magazine allocated Gerald to report on the 1964 US presidential election. He proceeded to work for The Sunday Times for two years, also producing many cover illustrations for Time magazine, such as caricatures of The Beatles in 1967.
