Garry Trudeau (Full Name: Garretson Beekman Trudeau) is a popular American Cartoonist who is the creator of Doonesbury comic strip. He is also the founder and executive producer of the Amazon Studios political comedy series Alpha House. Besides creating his strip, Garry has served in both theater and television.
In 1977, he became nominated for an Oscar in the category of Animated Short Film for A Doonesbury Special, formed for NBC in association with John and Faith Hubley. The movie received the Cannes Film Festival Jury Prize in 1978. In 1984, alongside composer Elizabeth Swados, Garry wrote the book and lyrics for the Broadway musical Doonesbury, for which he became nominated for two Drama Desk Awards.
In 1988, Garry also wrote and co-produced alongside director Robert Altman HBO’s critically acclaimed Tanner ’88. The show received the gold medal due to Best Television Series at the Cannes Television Festival, the British Academy Television Award due to Best Foreign Program, as well as Best Imported Program from the British Broadcasting Press Guild. It won an Emmy Award, and four ACE Award nominations. In 2004, Garry reconciled with Robert to write and co-produce Tanner on Tanner a sequel mini-series, for the Sundance Channel.
