Flavio Briatore is a prominent Italian businessman. In Italy, he began his professional life as an insurance salesman and restaurant manager. In the 1980s, Flavio was found guilty in Italy of multiple counts of fraud and was given two prison terms; however, the convictions were later overturned by an amnesty.
While he was a wanted man in the Virgin Islands and the US, he founded several prosperous Benetton stores. Luciano Benetton gave Flavio a promotion in 1990 to lead the Benetton Formula One racing team, which changed its name to Renault F1 in 2002.
He served as chairman and a part-owner of London’s Queens Park Rangers F.C. from 2007 until 2011. Flavio was forced to leave the ING Renault F1 team in September 2009 as a result of his race-fixing activities during the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.
