The majority shareholder of Ranbaxy, Daiichi Sankyo, and Sun reached an agreement in April 2014 under which Sun would pay $3.2 billion in Sun stock and $800 million in Ranbaxy debt in exchange for all of the company’s outstanding shares. The transaction closed in March 2015, making Sun the largest drug company in India and the fifth-largest in the world. Daiichi became Sun’s second-largest shareholder. Dilip retired as managing director of SPARC in May 2021, but he will still serve as chairman and a non-executive director of the company.
