In 1999, he and Vicki, his wife started One Heart At A Time Ministries, an itinerant-speaking ministry. Derwin founded Transformation Church in January 2010 alongside his wife. It was recognized as the second fastest-growing church by percentage in America that same year by Outreach Magazine. In 2013, the church began an extension campus at Kershaw Correctional Institution.
God has opened the doors for another campus at Lee Correctional Institution and outreach opportunities at Camille Correctional Institution as well as Catawba Pre-Release Center. In 2014, construction of the new TC 521 facility was completed on 12.1 acres of land along Highway 521 in Indian Land, SC.
On November 30, 204, the church held its first services in this new 32,000 sq. ft. facility. Transformation Church served thousands of people in three different regions surrounding it in 2017 with its Mission UIO Outreach Project. In 2018, the church launched The Hunger Project. They packed thousands of meals for their community. In February 2010, TC celebrated its 10-year anniversary.
