He is best known for his award-winning performances in the plays such as Take Me Out and Sweet Charity. Also, Denis gained fame after portraying vampire king Russell Edgington on HBO’s fantasy series titledTrue Blood.

The actor had a supporting role in films such as Dallas Buyers Club, Changeling, Milk,  and Charlie Wilson’s War. In 2011,  Denis starred in the first season of the FX anthology series titled  American Horror Story as Larry Harvey. In 2012, he was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie for his role in American Horror Story.
