Declan Donnelly ( Full mane: Declan Joseph Oliver “Dec” Donnelly OBE ) is a British television presenter and producer, comedian, actor, and former singer from Newcastle upon Tyne, England.  He is famous for working alongside Ant McPartlin as part of the presenting duo Ant & Dec.

Declan came to prominence in the children’s drama series Byker Grove alongside McPartlin, with both men establishing successful careers as television presenters. They are most known for presenting SMTV Live between 1998 and 2001, I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! and Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway since 2002, and Britain’s Got Talent since 2007.

Other notable highlights of Donnelly’s career alongside McPartlin include presenting PokerFace, Push the Button, Pop Idol, and Red or Black?, being hosts of charity appeal Text Santa (between 2011 and 2014), and also performing as pop music duo PJ & Duncan. It was announced on March 19, 2018, that Declan would be presenting the remaining episodes of Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway and the live semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent on his own following McPartlin’s car crash.

It was revealed in November 2019 that Declan is a distant cousin of the American pro wrestling promoter Dixie Carter. Declan lost his elder brother Dermott on July 8, 2022, after a short illness. Dermott died at the age of 55. Dermott was a Catholic priest. He died on Friday 8th, July 2022 afternoon at the age of 55 after collapsing on Thursday 7th evening at home. Dermott served as a priest for the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle in Northeastern England for three decades.

Before his death, he was assigned to the parish of St Joseph’s Church in Stanley. After Dermott’s death, Declan eulogized him via a Twitter post. Announcing the death of his brother, the tv presenter said;“I am heartbroken to tell you that my darling brother Fr Dermott, TweeterPriest, sadly passed away this afternoon. We are all beyond devastated. Thank you for your messages of sympathy and support, they are appreciated DD.”

His career in television started at the age of 12 after his father suggested that he audition for a new children’s television programme called Byker Grove. The show was being created by CBBC in Newcastle upon Tyne and had been advertised in local newspapers. Declan’s success in this audition led to him securing the role of Duncan, whereupon he met Anthony McPartlin for the first time. Although he grew up in an estate close to  Declan, Anthony had never met him until their involvement in the children’s drama.

The duo worked together on the show until they eventually departed the show in 1993, whereupon they started to bond as friends, both socially and professionally.
