Comedian Godfrey (Full Name: Godfrey C. Danchimah Jr.) is a famous American comedian, impressionist, and actor. He has starred in BET, VH1, and Comedy Central. As an actor, Godfrey appeared in movies like Original Gangstas, Zoolander, Johnson Family Vacation, and Soul Plane. He is now a regular performer at the comedy club Comedy Cellar in New York. In addition, he has voiced Mr. Stubborn and Mr. Tall in The Mr. Men Show.

Comedian Godfrey was born on July 21, 1969, in Lincoln, Nebraska, in the United States to Nigerian parents. He holds American nationality and is from the Igbo tribe. His parents moved to the States as they escaped the Nigerian Civil War. Godfrey grew up in Chicago and his nephew is Nigerian musician Sonny Okosun.

During his time there, he made the varsity football team and also performed at a traditional talent show. Godfrey discovered his comedic talent as he was impressing his coaches and teammates.

He is known to be a stand-up comedian who gained his skills at the All Jokes Aside comedy club in Chicago in the 1990s. Godfrey had his debut at Carolines on Broadway and the Comic Strip Live in 1995. He then became the warm-up comedian for Cosby and Soul Man behind the cameras. Moreover, Godfrey had his first on-camera appearance performing stand-up comedy for NBC’s Friday Night Videos.

His comedy has led him to the Aspen Comedy Festival and Comedy Central’s Premium Blend. He had his “Godfrey: Black by Accident” a one-hour special show on January 22, 2011, at the Gramercy Theatre in New York City. In addition, Godfrey had his second special “Godfrey: Regular Black” in Chicago on August 12, 2016.
