Christiane  Amanpour ( Christiane Maria Heideh Amanpour CBE)  is a British-Iranian tv host and journalist. Currently, Christiane serves as the Chief International Anchor for CNN. She as well serves as the host of CNN International’s nightly interview program. Apart from that, Christiane is the host of Amanpour & Company on PBS.

After she was done with the larger part of her primary school education back in Iran, Christiane was sent to boarding school in England by her parents at the age of 11 years. She joined an all-girls school in Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire called Holy Cross Convent. At the age of 16, she joined a Roman Catholic school in Chelmsford, Essex called New Hall School. After the Islamic Revolution began, Christiane and her family went back to England.  However,  Christiane stressed that they were never forced to leave the country.

They were actually going back to England due to the Iran–Iraq War. Her family ultimately remained in England after finding it difficult to go back to Iran. Christiane went to the United States after leaving New Hall. She wanted to study journalism at the University of Rhode Island. While at the university,  Christiane worked in the news department at WBRU-FM based in Providence, Rhode Island. She as well worked for NBC affiliate WJAR based in Providence, Rhode Island. There, her role was to serve as the station’s electronic graphics designer.

Christiane is related to General Nader Jahanbani. Her uncle, Captain Nasrollah Amanpour was married to the younger sister of General Nader.

General Nader commanded the Imperial Iranian Air Force for almost 20 years. However, he was executed in 1979 by Islamic Revolutionaries. His younger brother called Khosrow was married to Princess Shahnaz Pahlavi. In May 2021, she made an announcement that she has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. However, she had “major successful surgery to remove it”, and will now undergo chemotherapy for several months.

Christiane and James had a son together called Darius John Rubin born in 2000.  After living in London since 2000, the family moved to New York City in 2010 and rented an apartment in Manhattan’s Upper West Side. In May 2013, James made an announcement that the family would return to London to work on some projects. She was hired by CNN  n 1983  on the foreign desk in Atlanta, Georgia. Christiane’s role was to serve as an entry-level desk assistant. She was given her first major assignment covering the Iran–Iraq War during her early years as a correspondent. This role led to her being transferred to Eastern Europe in 1986 to report on the fall of European communism. In 1989, Christiane was assigned to work in Frankfurt am Main, West Germany. While there, she reported on the democratic revolutions sweeping Eastern Europe during the time. Christiane was able to move up in the company using her position. From 1992 to 2010, Christiane served as CNN’s chief international correspondent and also as the anchor of a daily CNN interview program. The program, Amanpour aired from 2009 to 2010. Also, she reported on major crises from many of the world’s hotspots, such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Rwanda, Somalia, Pakistan, Iran, Palestine, and Israel. Also, Christiane covered the Balkans and the United States after Hurricane Katrina.

An announcement was made in May 2018, that Christiane would permanently replace Charlie Rose on PBS. Rose left  PBS after allegations of sexual misconduct. Her new program was named Amanpour & Company. The program premiered on PBS on 10 September 2018. From the departure of Charlie Rose from PBS, until the new show premiered, her coverage aired on PBS stations, as Amanpour on PBS.

Since 2020, Christiane has been doing the PBS daily program from her home in England as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Her program continues to be seen on television on PBS at many stations in different areas in the USA. At least 4 TV stations in the greater Los Angeles region of southern California air her program.
