Chris Voss is an American businessman, author, and academic. He is a former FBI hostage negotiator and the CEO of The Black Swan Group Ltd, a company registered in East Grinstead, England. Chris co-authored the book Never Split the Difference. He serves as an adjunct professor at Harvard Law School, Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business, and a lecturer at the Marshall School of Business at University of Southern California.
He uses his many years of experience in international crises and high-stakes negotiations to develop a unique program and team that applies these globally proven techniques to the business world. During Chris’s 24 year tenure in the Bureau, he became trained in the art of negotiation by not only the FBI but Scotland Yard and Harvard Law School. He received the Attorney General’s Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement and the FBI Agents Association Award for Distinguished and Exemplary Service.

He spent 24 years working in the FBI Crisis Negotiation Unit and served as the FBI’s chief international hostage and kidnapping negotiator from 2003 to 2007. In 2006, Chris served as the lead negotiator on the Jill Carroll case in Iraq as well as the Steve Centanni case in the Gaza Strip. He supervised additional hostage cases in the Philippines, Colombia, and Haiti.
