Chip Foose is an American automobile designer and artist. He is the star of Velocity’s reality television series titled Overhaulin’. Chip started working on automobiles at age 7 for his father’s company called Project Design based in Santa Barbara, California. Chip started to attend the Art Center College of Design in 1982 after he was encouraged by Ford and Preston Tucker designer Alex Tremulis.
However, he dropped out after two years because of financial difficulties. He then worked for four years at Clenet Coachworks. Later, Chip returned to the Art Center to complete his education. He graduated in 1990 and worked full-time for Sterenberger Design and part-time for Boyd Coddington. Chip resigned from Sterenberger in 1993 to work for J Mays at Ford.
However, Coddington was able to convince Chip to work for him, instead. He worked for Coddington full-time, and eventually became the president of Coddington’s company called Hot Rods by Boyd. While working for Coddington, Chip designed many of Coddington’s well-known creations including Boydster and Boydster II.

The American automotive reality television series titled Overhaulin’ was originally run for five seasons between 2004 and 2008 on TLC. The sixth season of the show premiered after a four-year hiatus on October 2, 2012, on Velocity and Discovery (Cablevision). It was announced on June 2019 that the show would be returning for a new season on November 16, 2019, on Motor Trend. The show’s hosts were automobile designer Chip and co-host Chris Jacobs. Bud Brutsman was the show’s creator and producer while Courtney Hansen was the co-host of the show until 2005. Chip hosted the show from 2012 to 2015.
