Charley Walters ( Full name: Charles Leonard Walters ) is a retired American Major League Baseball pitcher. In 1969, he played for the Minnesota Twins. Currently, Charley serves as a sports columnist as well as a reporter for the Saint Paul Pioneer Press newspaper. He earned his high school diploma in 1965. Charley was playing Legion ball when his high school’s assistant principal called him and notified him that the Minnesota Twins were having an open tryout.

Joe Haynes, team executive offered  Charley $400 per month and a $500 signing bonus if he considered playing minor league baseball. It took  Charley four years to rise to the major leagues.

Bob Allison, a star player gave  him the nickname “Big Shooter,” and later shortened to “Shooter.”Charley pitched in six games in the major leagues. He finished with 1 hit batter, 2 strikeouts, 3 bases on balls, 1 home run, 4 earned runs, 4 runs, 6 hits, 1 game finished, 6.2 innings pitched, and a 5.40 ERA.
