Casey  Neistat ( Full name: Casey Owen Neistat) is an American vlogger, filmmaker, and YouTube personality.  He is the co-founder of the multimedia company Beme later acquired by CNN. Casey founded a creative space called 368 in 2018 for creators to collaborate with each other.

During World War II, Casey’s grandmother Louise Celice Grossman was a tap dancer and one of the Radio City Music Hall’s Rockettes. He directed a video in 2004 in which his grandmother made the “world’s greatest french toast” and gave it to his son, Owen.  Casey posted a four-minute short film on YouTube on October 31, 2011, about his grandmother.

The video opens with Casey asking his grandmother how many more years she thinks she will put on her annual tap dance show. He then inter-cuts different press clippings from her accomplished life with footage from her most recent tap dance show. The focus is the money Louise’s tap dancing has raised for cancer research-related charities.

YouTube’s official Twitter handle tweeted the video and appeared on countless news and viral video websites such as the Huffington Post. Louise died of natural causes 22 days after the video was posted at the age of 92. Casey wrote her obituary and delivered the eulogy.

Casey released a six-minute film on Vimeo on February 23, 2010, about the Internet site Chatroulette. In this video, he explains what the Chatroulette site is, how it works, and why people use it. He criticized the New York City Police Department on June 7, 2011, for ticketing cyclists in New York City for riding outside of the marked bike lanes.

Casey, in a video titled “Bike Lanes,” encounters an officer and receives a $50 ticket for not riding within the lanes. Then, Casey proceeds to comically ride his bike in the lane crashing into different obstructions in support of the argument that lanes aren’t the safest at all times and are even sometimes unusable.

New York Magazine in their response called  Casey a “Bike-Lane Vigilante.”The film was covered by most mainstream media outlets. Also, Time named “Bike Lanes” number 8 on their Top 10 Creative Videos of 2011 list. Casey was listed in 2014 on New Media Rockstars Top 100 Channels, ranked at #82.
