Avery Travis is an American investigative journalist covering political, social, economic, courts and justice system issues at KXAN-TV. Previously, she worked as a multimedia journalist at KAMC in Lubbock, TX which she joined in June 2017.
Before graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, Travis was awarded a Radio Television Digital News Foundation Scholarship (the George Foreman Tribute to LBJ Award). She was also given a Headliners Foundations Award.
In addition, the Staley and Beverly McBrayer Scholarship in Community Journalism. Outside the newsroom, Travis loves exploring Austin’s live music scene or at a coffee shop or on a patio with her rescue dog, Tuxedo. While in West Texas, she covered everything including the shooting on the Texas Tech University campus where an officer was killed.
Additionally, Travis also covered a deadly gas explosion in a residential neighborhood and the resulting $20 million lawsuits. Furthermore, she also became the “self-appointed” city government reporter, following citizen outrage over land annexation and high utility bills.
