Anne Thompson is an American journalist. She currently serves as the Chief Environmental Affairs Correspondent at NBC News based in New York, New York, United States. Anne started her journalism career in 1979 after joining WNDU-TV based in South Bend, Indiana. She worked for the channel from 1979 to 1983. Later, she became a consumer reporter for NBC affiliate KSDK-TV based in Saint Louis, Missouri. Anne held her role at the station from 1983 to 1986.

She as well worked for NBC affiliate WDIV-TV based in Detroit from 1986 to 1997. She joined NBC News for the first time in 1997 as their National correspondent. During that period, Anne shared two Gerald Loeb Awards for business journalism i.e the 2004 Television Short Form award for “The Jobless Recovery,” as well as the 2006 Television Deadline award for “The Katrina Effect.”

From March 2005 to April 2007, her role was to serve as the Chief Financial Correspondent. Anne covered issues such as the economic impact of Hurricane Katrina as well as the Martha Stewart trials. In April 2007, Anne became the Chief Environmental correspondent. In this role,  she has covered many economic and environmental issues, for example, she covered the 2010 BP Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico as well as the Catholic Church including former Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis.
