Andy Mccarthy ( Full name: Andrew C. McCarthy III) is an American journalist. He currently serves as a columnist for National Review. Before joining National Review, Andy served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. As a Republican, he led the terrorism prosecution in 1995 against Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman and eleven others.
The defendants were convicted of the World Trade Center bombing in 1993 as well as the planning of a series of attacks against New York City landmarks. Andy contributed to the prosecutions of terrorists in charge of bombing the US embassies in both Kenya and Tanzania. In 2003, the journalist resigned from the Justice Department.
Andy characterized Obama as a radical and a socialist during his presidency. He even published a book alleging that Obama was advancing a “Sharia Agenda”. Another book that Andy published called for Obama’s impeachment. The journalist defended false claims that the Affordable Care Act would lead to “death panels”.
He also promoted the conspiracy theory stating that the co-founder of the militant radical left-wing organization Weather Underground called Bill Ayers had authored Obama’s autobiography Dreams from My Father. Andy defended Trump during his presidency prior to his first impeachment. However, prior to his second impeachment, Andy wrote that Trump had “committed an impeachable offense.”
