Alex Giles is an American anchor and reporter. He currently works as a reporter/anchor at WBTV News (a CBS-affiliated tv station) based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Before his current station, Alex worked at WECT News. He became part of WBTV in August 2015. At the same time, he worked for a sister station based in Wilmington, NC. While at WBTV, Alex covered the societal unrest sparked following the police shooting death of Keith Lamont Scott.
He as well covered the protests that erupted after the death of George Floyd. Also, he covered his fair share of North Carolina storms where he traveled to the mountains for winter weather coverage. Additionally, Alex drove to the coast where he covered several hurricanes. He helped a WECT’s sister station based in Charleston, SC to cover the deadly church shooting that left nine innocent people dead.
While still at WECT, Alex won awards due to his work in breaking news coverage and also the investigation of law enforcement surveillance technology. During the summer of 2015, he joined WBTV as a bureau reporter who covered Gaston, Lincoln, and Cleveland counties. Alex became the anchor of WBTV’s Alert Center in early 2016. His role was to provide breaking news updates during the early evening newscasts. In early 2019, Alex started anchoring the 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. shows for WBTV.
