Alex Cohen ( Full Name: Alexandra Cohen ) is an American radio and tv journalist, roller derby skater, and author. The Emmy Award-winning tv journalist started her radio career by working for NPR (National Public Radio) in Washington, D.C. Her role there was to serve as a producer and director for Weekly Edition as well as Weekend All Things Considered. She currently serves as an anchor at Spectrum News1.
From 2003-2010, Alex was a member of the Los Angeles Derby Dolls. There, she used the derby name “Axles of Evil”, and TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls, skating as “Smother Theresa”. In 2009, Alex was hired to work on the Drew Barrymore-directed roller derby film, Whip It. She co-wrote an insider’s guide to roller derby titled Down and Derby which was published in 2010. Apart from her journalism career, Alex is also an author. She authored a book titled Down and Derby (2010, New York, Soft Skull Press) is her insider’s account of the history as well as the culture of roller derby.
