He became interested in the weather when seeing Hurricane Andrew destroy his hometown of Miami, back in 1992. Alberto walked outside and saw what a Cat-5 hurricane did to his city, and he wanted to know the science behind it. He wanted to know the why and how it happens, and to have an understanding of what happened.
Following seven years, his family and he moved to Fort Worth, where he attended Fossil Ridge High School where Alberto got exposed to North Texas severe weather — the severe wind, the hail, the tornado threats and that sealed the deal for him.
His approach to meteorology was different than most; he went the military route. Alberto researched which branch of the service would provide the best college opportunities for him and discovered that the Air Force has a “forecaster” job.
Alberto’s Air Force training led to over 80 semester hours of meteorological college credit. It became a lengthy process, especially during his deployments to Afghanistan. His time in the service was one of the best experiences in his life.
Prior to coming to FOX 4, Alberto had worked at the CBS affiliate KYTX in Tyler. He also did a stint at Texas Cable News in Dallas following an internship at WFAA/Channel 8.
