Al Michaels ( Full name: Alan Richard Michaels) is an American television sportscaster. He currently works for NBC Sports. Al joined the network after working for nearly three decades ( from 1976 until 2006) with ABC Sports. Al is famous for his many years of calling play-by-play of National Football League games.
Those games included NBC Sunday Night Football since 2006 as well as ABC Monday Night Football from 1986 to 2006. According to the New York Post’s Andrew Marchand, Amazon is targeting Al to be the voice of its upcoming exclusive Thursday Night Football package. As per the Post, while Al is at the top of Amazon’s list, the platform also has an interest in Fox’s Joe Buck as well as CBS’s Ian Eagle. Al is scheduled to broadcast Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles for NBC. However, he is also in the final season of his current contract.
Currently, NBC’s Mike Tirico is slated to take over the Sunday Night Football booth full-time from Al in the 2022–23 season. Amazon will be the exclusive broadcast partner of Thursday Night Football in the 2022–23 season.
