Al Leiter ( Full name: Alois Terry Leiter) is an American retired professional baseball left-handed starting pitcher. Currently, he serves as the studio analyst for MLB Network. Prior to that, Al was a color commentator for the YES Network as well as a 2016 Marlins Fox Sports Florida game analyst. He pitched 19 seasons forNew York Mets, Florida Marlins, Toronto Blue Jays, and New York Yankees in the Major League Baseball (MLB).
Al was also an advisor with NY Mets for baseball operations. Al served as an analyst alongside Steve Lyons and Thom Brenaman. He was in the booth with Joe Buck and Tim McCarver in the following year for the Boston Red Sox Vs. NY Yankees in the ALCS. The journalsit has worked as a color commentator as well as a studio analyst for the YES Network since 2006. In 2007, Al won a NY Emmy for the “Manny game” in Boston.
MLB Network hired Al in 2009 and on January 1, 2009, he appeared on the very first show the Network produced. In addition to his commentating job for the YES Network, Al became a studio analyst for MLB Network. He won a National Sports Emmy Award Nomination for Studio Analyst in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2018, and 2019. Also, Al received the Sports Emmy for Outstanding Studio Show-Daily MLB Tonight Segment Producer in 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2019.
